I guess I've just been lucky over the years and rarely ever have a problem with malware/virus. I use regularly AVG, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware. Combined with safe web surfing, I generally don't encounter such situations as I'm in now, or at least I could always handle them before.
Let me start by saying I went throught the stickies, and followed all directions as best I could. (I avoided the online scans as they are painfully long on dial-up, however I will probably start one before I go to bed this evening).
Now, my problem. Boot my computer up (I'm on dial up), and I start getting a pop-up immediately, mz.oucihax.info wants the internet and is trying to dial out to it. I've related this to the process RASAUTOU.EXE in my processes list. Shortly after I do connect, I get a command window pop-up, immediately followed by an empty folder coming up which is my C:\Temp\Update.html folder. Also, AVG seems to find a "Padobot" virus on my machine daily, always thinking it effectively cleans it, but it always comes back. I find it every manual virus scan as well.
Not sure what else I can tell you about it, so here's my Hijackthis logfile:
UPDATE 6/04/05
Ok, finally got my SP2 disc and installed. I think that cured alot of my problems, but not all. I also noticed something strange after installation that I believe is related. Around when all this started, it started asking me to click mu user name upon starting XP. I only have one account, so it never did that before. Upon SP2 installation, I tried turning on the firewall, and it won't let me, something about network admin settings. I'm not on a network, only dial up. (That's one of the probs I still have). Anyway, my first reaction was to go into control panel > users to make sure I had the admin account, and I found another user account there called ASP.net that was invisible and password protected. I deleted the account, and it no longer asks me to pick a user, it loads straight up like before. I'm guessing that was part of the virus? Anyways, here's a new HiJack this log that I just made with SP2. Thanks again!
