Java 6 update 25 refuses to uninstall. every time i try a standard uninstall through control panel, it says that 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.' apparantly the 'jre.6.0_23-c-l.msi' is missing from the system. any way to remedy the problem? installing also fails to the same problem. have tried manually removing the files from the disk but still no effects. in addition also ran JavaRa to remove older Java version but problem persists.

any help would be appreciated as Java isn't functioning at all on my PC right now :)

(have uploaded screenshots of the problem for visual)

Try this utility:

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it in your next reply.

Hi!

Try downloading the latest version of Java, and to remove it that way, by clicking on the installer and choosing Remove/Uninstall.

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6

See if that allows you to remove it.

Hey,

downloaded the JRE version 6 but yielded the same results. I'm running a 64-bit windows so i tried to download the 64-bit version and it installed fine (stuff such as Runescape etc still wont work), but apparently the 32-bit still refuses to be uninstalled at all.

any ideas?

cheers,
S.T.

RevoUninstaller
Download and install Revo Uninstaller
  • Double click the Revo Uninstaller icon on your desktop to start the program
  • Scroll through the listed programs and Right Click on the program you wish to uninstall
  • From the pop out menu choose Uninstall
  • Click Yes to the confirmation dialogue
  • In the next window select the Advanced mode
  • Click Next to start uninstalling the program
  • Answer Yes to confirm the uninstall
  • When the program has completed the four steps, click Next to allow the program to search for leftovers
  • Once complete, click Next, then Finish
  • Repeat the above steps for any other programs you wish to remove.

managed to uninstall it with revo!

but...

another problem came up :)

im assuming that java has been removed (it doesn't come up in both windows uninstaller and revo) so i downloaded the java.exe from the website, and when i run it, i get a response saying that 'this action is only valid for products that are currently installed'

ideas?

Try these instructions for downloading a new version of Java;

Java Outdated

Important Note: Your version of Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Look for "Java Platform, Standard Edition".
  • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • From the list, select your OS and Platform (32-bit or 64-bit).
  • If a download for an Offline Installation is available, it is recommended to choose that and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Posted Image > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in Vista/Windows 7 and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
  • If using Windows 7 or Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
  • When the Java Setup - Welcome window opens, click the Install > button.
  • If offered to install a Toolbar, just uncheck the box before continuing unless you want it.
  • The McAfee Security Scan Plus tool is installed by default unless you uncheck the McAfee installation box when updating Java.
-- Starting with Java 6u10, the uninstaller incorporated in each new release uses Enhanced Auto update to automatically remove the previous version when updating to a later update release. It will not remove older versions, so they will need to be removed manually.
-- Java is updated frequently. If you want to be automatically notified of future updates, just turn on the Java Automatic Update feature and you will not have to remember to update when Java releases a new version.

Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications but it's not necessary.
To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter.
  • Click Ok and reboot your computer.

Hi!

I've been talking to another tech on the site who was actually experiencing the same issue as you were. He has a 64 bit system as well, and appeared to be using a 32-bit browser, which was why he was experiencing the message about Java not being installed.

He installed the 32 bit version of Java and all seems to be well. You may want to try that and see how well that works for you.

Hi SweetTech,

Java 32-bit will NOT work (or even install) at all on my PC now. I'm now using the 64-bit version but I can only use IE9 64-bit to use Java at all. \
Thnx for the help! :)

No problem! Glad to hear you were able to get it resolved with a reformat and re-install.

Take care.
