Hello.

I just started having a problem with how fonts are displayed in Yahoo Mail. I think I know what caused it, but I don't know why. About a week ago, I finished playing a computer game and then I uninstalled it, as usual. The requester said everything was uninstalled except for one folder. I looked and the folder that was not uninstalled was a fonts folder inside the game folder. Note, I am not talking about the C:\Windows\Fonts folder, but a fonts folder within the game folder. I deleted that fonts folder and that's when the problems started.

Nature of the problem: The problem with fonts only affects my outgoing email messages in Yahoo Mail. My incoming email is fine and all Web site fonts as well as the fonts in all my programs are fine. There are settings in Yahoo Mail for the fonts and I set them a long time ago and they always stayed the same until now. You can select the Font face, Font size, and text color. I would always use a black 12-point Times New Roman font. Whenever I sent an email, it always used that font by default.

Now, it doesn't remember my default settings anymore. Whenever I try to compose an email, the text is too small for me to read. The color is still black and I think, but am not sure, that it is still using Times New Roman, but the text size is 8, so it's very difficult for me to read when I am composing a new email. I always have to reselect Times New Roman 12-point font. Then it's okay, but after I hit a CR, it often reverts to the smaller font again.

I checked my C:\Windows\Fonts folder and I have 245 fonts in there. The bottom line is it is now very tedious to compose Yahoo emails. I have to keep changing the font and size, sometimes in mid-message, to get what I want.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, Internet Explorer 8, and Yahoo Mail Classic.

My question is how can I get Yahoo Email to remember my default font settings, the way it has done for years, up until now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, Jacee.

Thanks for such a quick response. Unfortunately, under my Mail Options, General, there are no options to set the font and size. I just checked again and even checked the other options besides General and there are no options to do that.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, Jacee.

I already checked that, but it didn't help. I also wrote to Yahoo, so if I get the answer, I will post it here for others to see.

However, there is a new wrinkle. It appears the problem is not just with Yahoo Mail. Now I am getting the small text as I type this message to you. Normally, I just read Web pages and the text is fine. Now I am composing here and I have the same problem. So I imagine the problem is with Internet Explorer 8 and not just Yahoo Mail. I did go to Tools/Internet Options/Fonts in IE 8, but that just lets you set the fonts for Webpage and Plain Text, but it doesn't allow you to set the size. That is the problem I am having. The font is too small for me.

Thanks.

humm.. your text looks fine to me in your replies. Click on display in the Control Panel. Are all the settings correct as to the way you want them?

Hi, Jacee.

I see the messages that I composed and they look bigger after I post them. But when I am composing them, the text is much smaller.

I just checked Display in Control Panel and it has Smaller - 100% (default) checked. I don't remember changing the default, so I imagine it was always this way. However, I will now select Medium - 125% and then get back to you.

No, Medium was no good. That made everything bigger even my desktop icons and I don't want that, so I set it back to the default, Smaller - 100%.

I wonder what it could be.

Thanks for your help.

Click on 'view' under the address bar. Now click on text size ... what is the setting? Mine is ticked on medium.

That was the first thing I checked. Mine is also set to Medium and my Zoom is usually set to 100%, but now with the problem, I sometimes set it to 125%.

Thanks.

Hello, Jacee.

Thanks for your help, but I wanted to advise you that the problem with the fonts in Yahoo Mail has been resolved. It turns out that the Arial and Verdana regular fonts were no longer installed in my font directory. I reinstalled them and the problem is resolved. The reason I thought the problem was with Yahoo Mail is that is one of the few places I use Arial and Verdana fonts, so that's where the problem showed up. In most other applications (such as MS Word) I use Times New Roman, so the problem didn't show up there.

Thanks for your help and you can close this thread now.

My pleasure and thanks for your help, Jacee. I figure maybe it wil help others with the same problem.

This is what to do. The default fonts folder is C:\Windows\Fonts. Use the Run command (Windows Key-R) and type c:\Windows\Fonts\name of font.ttf. Then start with Arial, Georgia, Courier New, Verdana, and Times New Roman. For instance you would type in the Run box:

c:\Windows\Fonts\Arial.ttf

The font will open and it will say Print and Install at the top. Click on Install. If it says, Font is already installed; install again?; just click Yes to be sure. If it's not installed, then it simply installs it.

With me, Arial and Verdana were not installed for some reason. They wree installed until I had the problem. I imagine when I uninstalled the fonts form the game folder, it also uninstalled them from the Windows\Fonts folder.

Anyway, after I installed them the problem was solved.

I hope this helps someone else.

Hello,

my Yahoo page font is not readable at all. I cannot see what is displayed. I have been having this problem since 2 weeks. Only on Yahoo. Everything else works fine. I have to maximize my page to see what is written. After reading comments, I understand it has something to do with fonts installed. Recently I installed Helvetica font family. Since then I am having this problem. Please help me. I cannot uninstall the font because it says font is in use. Am desperate now.

Being that the last reply to this thread was some eight + years ago it is most unlikely that you will get any response.

You should never post in another members thread looking for help for yourself but instead start your own thread on the appropriate forum and someone will help you there.

Thank you for understanding.
