I ran this late last night but when I tried to post then and early this morning your server was respoding with an error. Glad your back up.

This started out as a problem with numerous popups and windows with Aurora in the window border. Urls I entered in address bars would also be redirected after I clicked go. After following the preliminary steps I am still having various windows popping up with the ad blocked. The popups no longer say Aurora. At times they come in quite a flurry.

My OS is XP home 2002 w/ SP2 My browser is IE 6

The HJT log after the primary actions recommended follows any assistance would be appreciated as it is impossible to carry on on line in Explorer

Welcome geryd to Geeks to Go!

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

***

Download CWShredder, update it. Then open the program and click ‘fix’.

***

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Don't use it yet.

***

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet

***

Open HijackThis.
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Windows AFA Internet Enhancement
Spy Killer

Press ‘delete this entry’.
Close HijackThis.

****Restart the computer to save mode.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.
***

Open HijackThis.
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://www.runsearch.com/search.html

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
***

Do a search for this file:
McAfeeAV.exe
and remove it. (let me know where you found it)

Also remove this folder (if it still exits):
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\

***

Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\System32\gqziqiaruqie.exe
C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zkxolc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dhcpcsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\kbdpl.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Open Cleanup.exe
Go to options
Select ‘custom’
Put a check to:* empty recycle bins
* delete prefetch files
* CleanUp! All users.
Press 'cleanup!'

Once it's done, log off and log on again. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.

***

Post back here in this topic using 'add reply' with a fresh log using HijackThis.
