I'm having internet problems and could really use some help.
I'm set up at a friend's apartment taking care of her cat while she'll be away in Berlin for three weeks.
I've brought over my desktop computer AND my laptop. I need both. My desktop is up and running and easily connects to the internet at her apartment without a problem.
My laptop, on the other hand, is not able to browse the internet.
It DOES seem to be connecting to the router successfully. Status says "Connected", Signal Strength: "Excellent". But when I open up a browser I'm not able to load any webpage whatsoever. Tried both Firefox and Chrome. I Googled the issue, found a few relevant discussions, but none of the proposed solutions have had any success with my particular problem.
I've tried connecting both via wifi and with a network cable directly to the router. The problem is consistent using both methods.

Here are the specs:

The router model: ZTE MF612
My laptop Is a Dell Studio 1555
Running Windows XP Pro

Using Speccy... here's the info on the Network tab:

Are you able to ping any websites, such as google.com and get replies? Do you have a software firewall installed, if so, have you tried temporarily disabling it briefly to see if that could be blocking you from communicating out to the Internet?

hey 3quilibrium, thanks for the reply.
following instructions on wikihow i tried pinging a few websites. here's what i did:
1. clicked Start > Run...
2. typed: cmd
3. typed ping www.google.com

received a message that ping request could not find host

i tried a couple of other addresses, same results.

i have comodo firewall installed (free version). i right-clicked the icon in the system tray, selected Firewall Settings, then selected "Disabled".
tried pinging again... same results as above.
