xbox and pc sharing/connecting

my xbox live is connected and my pc is connected, my media sharing is on, when i go to pc connection it comes up as pc not listed and then if i select more info it tells me my pc is not connected and to make sure the pc and xbox are connected to the same device, my netgear modem hooks up to my pc through ethernet, and my xboxlive is hooked up wirelessly to my modem... i have tried every step in the commands and on here....
