I recently built a system using a MSI Z68MA-ED55 B3 mainboard. It uses Realtek onboard Ethernet. System is running Win7 64 Home. System runs flawlessly except at random times (every few days) the ethernet controller driver will crash causing the system to not see a connection to my wired router. I have to reinstall the driver to get things going again. This is my wifes PC and she is not happy.

What could be causing this issue? I am thinking it could be windows update installing a update causing the driver to crash, but it hasnt updated in a couple days. I will turn automatic updates off and see what that does.

Also, Ethernet cables are cheap and not very robust - they do not withstand being yanked and tripped over very well. I would try another cable just to eliminate that from the equation. You may also try a different port on your Ethernet switch (probably integrated with your router).

Also, if you recently had different computer attached to your network, and you wife's machine was off-line at the time, the different computer may have snagged the same IP address causing conflicts next time the wife connects. To resolve this, reset your network by powering off the computers completely - that is, shutdown and unplug from the wall or, if equipped, set master power switch on back of PSU to off (0). Then turn the router on, let the lights settle down, then each computer one at a time.
