Hi there

I deleted a document by mistake. However, I've recovered it using Recuva. Unfortunately, when I try to open it, it says 'The file is not in a recognizable format' and when it opens it's all goobledegook!

Can anyone help please.

Hi... Why don't you check your recycle bin? It should be there, in its original form, unless you've cleared the bin by now.

Nothing's crazy..

It's .xls and all the word docs say .doc but are unreadable too

Could you please try following and post back:

• Copy/Paste this file at a different location (don't want to mess with the recovered file)
• At new location change extension to txt, you have to enable viewing extensions for known file types
• You maybe able to recover part or complete data (but will loose formatting)

It was funny... I did the above, the text became Chinese characters (I'm Chinese, although the original doc was in English)!!!

None whatsoever, I can't read Chinese, so have never used Chinese characters on my lappie .

Since in Post #8 you mentioned: "I'm Chinese" that's why I asked if it made any sense

As far Default System Locale is concerned - It's Operating System Language I thought it may be Chinese
