I am helping a friend with her computer. She says she gets random blue screens and it sometimes doesn't reboot but eventually does. I've had it running for a little while and saw the Tidserv pop-up from Symantec. I haven't experienced a blue screen yet.

This seems like a serious virus. Is it? How did it get past her Symantec?

I haven't been here before so just tell me what you need and I'll do my best to supply it.

New update: I downloaded and ran symantec's FixTDSS.exe and it reported "Infected MBR". I chose Repair and the tool reported the repair was successful. I then did a live update which pulled in many new definitions and ran a complete scan.

Do I need to do anything else or is the computer now clean?

Thanks for you help!
Doug
