Windows XP freezes at desktop background at boot with just the cursor showing. Not able to CTL-ALT-DEL, right click or anything else. Currently booted in safe mode. NOT able to go back to restore point. This APPARENTLY happened after a Windows update. I came home from work and found it partially shut down and hung there. Have not been able to boot since. I am the only user. From safe mode have run Avast and Spybot, both are showing clean.

GAH...help please.

Restore wont work with anything but the most recent restore point...and that is not doing the job.

Finally found the original XP CD...SP2 not SP3 that is now on the machine. So if the advice works...may be a LONG day.
