Help! I recently updated my HP support assistant on my HP laptop running on windows 7 . In the midst of installing the automatic update, the following window keeps popping up and I cannot close it!

msiexec.exe - Bad Image (window title)

C:\Windows\AppAtch\AppPatch64\AcGenral.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

If I completely restart my computer, this error window does not pop up. However, this error pops up only after I try to install an application, such as hp support assistant.

I have also tried a system restore, but the process gets stuck in the initialization stage (which I suspect maybe due to the dll file problem)

Please advise what is the best way to fix this, short of completely reinstalling windows 7?

Thank you!
