hi all! i bought a abit ati 9600xt graphics card 3 weeks ago but now its playing up, sometimes when i boot mi pc the fan on the card makes a winnning noise , and the computer freezes for like 2 seconds then the monitor turns off but the computer is still running, :tazz: i recoreded the sound of the fan with mi phone if u would like to hear it email me on weedboy66@hotmail.com, cheers

it sounds like you have already identified the problem.
have you tried reinstalling the original card or another graphics card?

before removing any hardware you might want to read this on electrostatic discharge. it may not be what caused the card to malfunction, but will explain the importance of avoiding contact with any open circuitry.

not much info in your reply.

what did you try? the original card? a new card?
does the noise occur with the one of these cards?
to clarify - this is an intermittent problem, sometimes it boots and sometimes it doesn't?
is the noise present when it boots properly or only when it fails?
can you see if the CPU fan is working properly(you might need a flashlight)?

more info, please.

yer i took out the graphics card and used the onboard plug and hasent frooze

Once you have the video card installed ...you need to get into the bios and disable the onboard video.

That can cause alot of problems
