My daughter has windows XP, have plugged in phone line for internet access. It says com port is busy. Have tried both ports. Then it says modem not recognized. The internet tech could not help. We had it hooked up before and it worked fine.

There's a good chance an electrical storm may have zapped your modem. It's very common. A new modem should cure it. <_<

Hello there ,

Is it a soft modem on a laptop PC ?

I do have the same problem trying to use my embedded modem device, a Lucent Technologies soft modem AMR. And the modem should be fine as I have never used it so far ...

I read on several forums about such discrispancy with Win XP.
No solution found so far ...
