My W7 Home computer said it had been updated and I had to shut it down to complete.

It has said it was shutting down for 2 hours now. It is not making any noise and the harddrive light is not coming on at all. When I put a CD in the harddrive light flashes several times and then stays off.

Whenever it is installing an update on shutdown it cautions you to not turn off the computer and says it is installing an update, but now it is just hanging.

What to do?

Well, it is 4 hours now; just sitting there. I tried ctr-alt-del and alt-tab, but it doesn't respond.

After 5 hours I pulled the power cord out and rebooted. It did updates for about a minute and then worked normally.
Still, what happened?
