My computer is on W7 and my wife's is on XP. I have copies of our check register software on both computers and the data file is on her computer. I put the data file into the "shared files" directory and both computers were able to access it.
Then my computer couldn't find it because it couldn't see her shared files directory.

The only thing that changed is that I changed her network adaptor from the kind that plug into the house electrical circuit to a wireless adaptor. I don't know if the timing was exact since I don't use the check register on my computer very often, but it approximately at that time.

Any suggestions as to how I again share the data file?

Check the Windows Firewall / Exceptions tab on the XP computer, make sure File and Printer Sharing is checked.
