CoNceled,
Welcome to the GTG Forums, I will be reviewing your HJT log.
Please read "ALL" of the instructions before proceeding:
You may want to print out these instructions for a reference.

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
Nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
SafeMode Help

Once in SafeMode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Now scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=

Using Window Explorer find and remove the following folders/files if found:
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nsh1C.dll <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll <-- File

Start CleanUp
When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
Uncheck cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.

CoNceled,
Make sure to read all of the instructions before proceeding..

Do you have a resident Anti-Virus Scan Program?
It looks like you are using Mcafee Online??
I dont see it in your running processes.

Enable show hidden files and folders:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Go to Start | Run
Then type services.msc
Then look for Network DDE Connections (NETDDEC) and double click on it.
In the General Tab:
  • Click Stop under Service Status:
  • Next to Startup Type choose Disabled
Click Appy then OK.

Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p2pnetwork] p2pnetwork.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [p2pnetwork] p2pnetwork.exe

O23 - Service: Netbios Helper Service - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\altsvc.exe
O23 - Service: Network DDE Connections (NETDDEC) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\service.exe

Close all open windows except HJT then click the Fix Checked button.

Using Windows Explorer find and remove the following folders/files if present:
p2pnetwork.exe <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\system32\altsvc.exe <-- File

Start CleanUp
When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
Uncheck cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.
Click OK
Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
When asked to reboot system select No
Close CleanUp

Reboot and post back a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Thanks,

CoNceled,

Do you have a resident Anti-Virus Scan Program?
It looks like you are using Mcafee Online??
I dont see it in your running processes.

Do you have a resident Anti-Virus Program
Here are some recommendations...

http://www.geekstogo...ources-t38.html

Not running a resident Anti-Virus Program is asking for trouble, your system will most likely get infected again if you don't have Anti-Virus Protection.

Thanks,

Thank you for the help! So far i haven't got any annoying pop-ups and feels pretty safe. I got AVG Virus Scan, and still have Ad-Aware to scan every now and then. Thanks Again!

I would post a new HJT log just to make sure that everything is cleaned up.

Thanks,

CoNceled,
Your log looks good, nice job.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera is OK as well.
Be sure to also keep up with Windows and IE updates.

Windows security and critical updates.
http://v4.windowsupd.../en/default.asp

Internet Explorer security and critical updates.
http://www.microsoft.../ie/default.asp

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Thanks,
rstones12
