My computer was turned off and unplugged for two weeks while we were out of town and when we got home and turned it on we get a few error / corruption messages on start up:

Desktop Gadgets:
Settings.ini is being used by another process. Close the other program and then click Retry, or click Cancel to exit. I had the weather desktop gadget on my desktop before.

OpenOffice.org 3.3:
Either another instance of OpenOffice.org is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked. Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user "OpenOffice.org on host". Do you really want to continue? Yes / No.

I am unable to save ANY files all of a sudden too. Whether a picture from snip it to show error messages, or to try to save a log from the SpyBot or HiJack This.

According to my computer I don't have administrative authority to do anything anymore. Now, my system settings show that I do but I can't save anything regardless and I get an error message stating I can't whenever I try to save something or change anything. Even to clean up with SpyBot and even uninstall programs I no longer use or want or am afraid of. Plus, I can even find the registry entries that SpyBot gives for the corrupted files it supposedly found! I want to delete them but can't find them. My computer won't even allow me to do a virus scan with Avast, saying I don't have the authority to do so.

When I open Internet Explorer, I get a message stating that the default search provider has been changed, but this is not what my settings are telling me and I stay where I want to be, nothing has changed as far as I can see. Of course, it gives me the OK button to click which may be only doing more harm to click to continue on the web. I've tried to remove Bing but it won't let me do that and I can't re-install to uninstall either.

Now, I ran a SpyBot Search and Destroy and found Coupon Bar (PUP), MyWebSearch (Trojans), FunWebProducts (PUP), MyWay.MyWebSearch (), and DoubleClick(). 1506 temporary files cannot be removed before the scan for some reason. Um, that's not what it said yesterday ... only around 200 or so files. So something is mutating in here.

Also, I've run SpyBot several times and it seems to be cleaning up, as per the log, yet I can't save any files yet, including the log generated from SpyBot or HiJack This, of which to fix from.

I'm not sure what to do now. Can anyone help me get my computer back????

Oh, also, it won't allow me to remain logged in to Facebook or Yahoo as I usually am. I have to login every time I visit the internet.

Please try the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide.
Don't post the logs here, post in the Malware forum instead.

My computer won't even allow me to do a virus scan with Avast, saying I don't have the authority to do so.

This may be a indication of a hidden infection and the root of your issue.
As instructed in post 3 I suggest you read the 'Start Here' topic found HERE. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

If you are still having issues after the malware expert gives you a clean bill of health, Please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
