Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Woody,

How is your computer running now?

Any other time I would definately look at the other post for you, but I leave tomorrow for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Phoenix, and I will be unable to answer posts on the forums for 10 days. How long ago did you post the log? If it has been more than 5 days, click the pinned topic "Not Getting Help" in the Malware forum and you can post a link there.

Hi woody,

Justin asked me to look in on his outstanding topics for him whilst he was away.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

Download and install CleanUp! Here

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

ewido

Set PC to show hidden files (click link if you do not know how)LINK

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run Ewido. click on the Scanner button, Select drives if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book as this may take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Now scan with HJT and check the following entries if they are there.

O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=file://C:\APPS\IE\offline\uk.htm

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

now using windows explorer locate the following files/folders and delete them.

C:\APPS\IE\offline\uk.htm

Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files.Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Rescan with HJT and post the log back, together with the ewido and panda logs.

Hi woody,

Yes it was just the C:\APPS\IE\offline\uk.htm that you should have deleted.

Are you saying that you have deleted the icon for the recycle bin or the whole recycle bin it'self?

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer, I went C drive>APPS>IE>offline>uk.htm, the uk.htm part of it was in the offline folder, now was I meant to delete the offline folder or just the uk.htm file?? because if I was meant to just delete the file and not the folder, I have emptied my recycle bin, so I wont be able to restore the folder. Is this clear, about as clear as mud lol :tazz:

thanks woody

Ok woody,

Lets get the folder back

Download and use the following

Restoration

Restoration is an easy to use and straight forward tool to undelete files that were removed from the recycle bin or directly deleted from within Windows, and we were also able to recover photos from a Flash card that had been formatted. Upon start, you can scan for all files that may be recovered and also limit the results by entering a search term or extension. In addition, it also provides the option to wipe the found files beyond simple recovery. The program is small and standalone, it does not require installation and can also run from a Floppy disk. Restoration works with FAT and NTFS as well as digital cameras cards.

Let me know how you get on

It couldn't find it, I have c>APPS>IE, but there is nothing in the IE folder, do I need this OFFLINE folder?? can't I just create a new folder inside of IE called OFFLINE??

This becoming abit of a harrier jumpjet, as in way over my head lol.

Another thing that I have noticed when booting up, is that the pc doesn't boot up the same way as it used to, it doesn't take any longer than it used to, it goes to the options that are given to go into the recovery console, or goto windows XP and hangs there for 3/4 seconds, is this normal, now that I have run all the scans??

thanks again woody.

Hi woody,

Right i'm on your wavelenght now, yes you can create a folder inside the c>APPS>IE\ caklled offline.

Next part of fix.

Ensure pc set up to show hidden files and using windows explorer locate and delete the following files: AND JUST THE FILES :tazz:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\NPNd2fn.dll
C:\Program Files\Need2Find\bar\1.bin\NPND2FN.DLL

ThenReboot your system and rescan with HJT and post the log back.

Your other problem is a little more complicated.

What has happened is that recovery console option has somehow been added to your bootup menu. This in itself is more of a nuiscence than anything else, and can be left if you don't have the confidence to carry out the procedure below, as a mistake could stop you from booting your pc.

Restart your computer. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click the hard disk on which you installed the Recovery Console.

On the Tools menu, click Folder Options , and then click the View tab.

Click Show hidden files and folders , click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK .

At the root folder ie: C\ , delete the Cmdcons folder and the Cmldr file.

At the root folder, right-click the Boot.ini file, and then click Properties .

Click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK .

WARNING: By modifying the Boot.ini file incorrectly may prevent your computer from restarting. Be sure to delete only the entry for the Recovery Console. Also, it is recommended that you change the attribute for the Boot.ini file back to a read-only state after you complete this procedure.

Open the Boot.ini file in Microsoft Windows Notepad, and remove the entry for the Recovery Console. It looks similar to this:

C:\cmdcons\bootsect.dat="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Now save the file and close it, Finish!

Then go back and hide the systems files
