Try this:

Press Windows key+r.
Type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter.

See if it opens that way.

Does this work within Internet Explorer? if it does please goto advanced and reset however this may not solve your problem so in that case try doing a system restore. Typically restore it back 2 days before the problem occurred.

Thanks

Hello

Now we are going to dig deep and this is the 2nd from last option. We are going to a repair installation of Windows XP.

HOW TO REPAIR WINDOWS XP

Please note you will need your original Windows XP disc and licence key as this will be required.

Thanks

Hello

Is this for both? licence and CD? If you don't have the disc but have the licence I will be able to proceed however without a licence I won't be able to proceed with the repair installation. Please let me know the situation.

Thanks

Hello

We are now stuck the only option is for a corrupted user account. The only way to get Windows back if the next step fails would be to buy a new disc however I can save you £££ or $$$ if you would want to switch over to Linux. To create a new user account please do the following :-

  • Click start and goto control panel
  • Make sure you are on classic view if not click switch to classic view
  • Go down to user accounts
  • Click create a new account and follow the prompts

Now reboot and see if that fixes your problem. If not then I won't be able to go further since you don't have a licence key or cd im affraid to say. I will be able to get you onto Linux if you wish.

Thanks

You can download and run Magic Jellybean Keyfinder to get the key for the OS.
