PC repair shop says motherboard is fried, and cost to much to replace,so they will sell me a new pc as it would be cheaper than trying to replace the old one.I have no idea if this makes sense or not! I don't know the price of a new one or used one,or how to replace it. They could give me any price and i would not know what a fair replacement price would be. If i find one i would be willing to try to replace it myself. Any suggestions anyone??

Nobody can comment because you've told us nothing about the machine at all.
The motherboards are cheap on their own, if you know what you need and how to do it.

A machine with Media Centee on it will be about seven years old so it's probably right that it may not be worth to repair.
