Just curious. I'm working on my father-in-law's Dell Inspiron E1705. Trying to restore to factory settings using Windows 7 Ultimate but w/o cd. Can find system restore points but none back to factory setting. Has a feature labeled "PcRestore" that says it will go to factory settings but when I try to run it, almost immediately it pops up an unknown error.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

PCRestore is what you need unfortunately. How are you starting it?

See the instructions in the manual, see if it works from a boot.

Actually, before doing that, run chkdsk to correct any files system errors that may be present: How to Run Check Disk at Startup in Vista or Windows 7
