Okay, now the tick is on "On" but it's grayed out. "Don't allow exceptions," is not ticked anymore and it's white now and not grayed out. "Off" is also grayed out.

Oh, and "Change the way blah blah blah alers me," is also grayed out.

That's because the value we set enabled the firewall via the registry so it stays enabled. I was just making sure setting the values to one would enable the firewall. :tazz:

Open Notepad, and copy everything inside the code box below and paste it into a new notepad file. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as firewall3.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above "REGEDIT4"!

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall]

Locate firewall3.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. After merged successfully prompt, please reboot and let me know if you're able to enable/disable it.

Ok, great! But there are still some other things in the registry that this infection modifies. I just have to find out exactly what we need to do with them.

I'll be back! :tazz:

Ok here we go! This should cover the rest of the modifications this infection make to the registry.

Open Notepad, and copy everything inside the code box below and paste it into a new notepad file. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as rdriv2.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above "REGEDIT4"!

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters]
"AutoShareWks"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters]
"AutoShareServer"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters]
"AutoShareWks"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters]
"AutoShareServer"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions]
"Installed Time"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions]
"Record"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update]
"AUOptions"=dword:00000004

Locate rdriv2.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. After merged successfully prompt, please reboot.

After reboot, go into C:\Windows\System32 to double-check to make sure rdriv is gone!

Post one more HiJackThis log for me!

I see that you're running Defender Pro Firewall along with the XP Firewall. Please disable one of them. Multiple firewalls do not get along and it won't protect your system better.

Any other problems??

Nope. I'll disable Defender Pro then since it's annoying that it popups up so much. >>

Ok, great!

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up :tazz:

I recommend checking the http://www.microsoft.com website periodically for critical updates to install.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Ewido Security Suite <= Protection against Trojans, Worms, Dialers, Hijackers, Spyware, and Keyloggers.

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
