Explorer won't run

I've been cleaning up for a while after a splurge of installers, spyware, etc.

One of the things i think i've managed to get rid of is haxdoor-y, as i've not had any of the BSODs it caused since cleaning.

spybot and norton(with latest definitions) both come up clean, but in booting in normal mode explorer won't run. my desktop was replaced with a message saying "warning! This machine has been infected"

I've got rid of the .bmp with that message on it after reading about the smitfraud trojan, but although the behaviour is similar, this is clearly a different variant.

As I'm fairly sure the computer was (and may still be) infected with a trojan, I've disconnected it from the internet and disabled the NIC in the bios (would rather not reconnect until i'm fairly sure it's clean.
