I don't know much about notebooks, so please don't get angry at my questions.

Can someone tell me if the RAM used for notebooks and desktops are same or they are different?

I have a dell Inspiron 6000 with 512MB, Shared DDR2,400MHz RAM. I want to upgrade it to 1GB. Do you think I can use Viking 512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory to upgrade it to 1GB? I am getting it for $20, is it a good deal?

Thanks,
Amit.

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

They are VERY different !! Laptops use SODIMM chips ..

THIS chip from crucial.com is what you need and is guaranteed to work or your money back and is a fair tad more expensive than what you were contemplating using..

Mind you, this ram will work while the other wouldn't!!
