Seems odd that the hard drive has failed since it was working perfectly until I ran OTL. I think the hard drive may be a SATA1 or a Toshiba MK1655GSX-(S1).

I suppose the (S1) stands for SATA 1.

CPU is: INTEL® Atom ™ CPU M270

BIOS Version: A05

Product Name: Inspiron 1011

I can get into the setup utility but don't know what to change in there.

SCSI_0-000_DISK_GENERIC_MULTI-CARD -Target not ready. This is saying that it cannot access your hard drive, none of our tools are capable of doing that

Could you follow the steps on this page to run the diagnostic utility

OK then. Well we had it working for a day or two anyway. At the price I paid for this unit I don't think it's worth pouring much money into. So if we're done here I'll just say thanks one more time and send the notebook to a friend who may be able to salvage some parts. What makes me the most upset about this is that it was loaned out to someone who insists that it was working perfectly when they brought it back, but the first time I fire it up there were major issues instantly. I guess I'll just chalk it up to a lesson learned and not let ANYONE borrow my equipment from now on. If you have any ideas I'd still be glad to hear them.

It might be worth checking the leads to the hard drive, although the continual appearance of Chkdisc does suggest a bad hard drive problem. Was the laptop dropped at any stage ?

Who knows. As I said it was loaned to someone we thought to be trustworthy. What they did to it I can't say and for the value it's not worth makinf a big fuss. I'll pop it open and have a look but I have a feeling we're out a notebook.

How do you download this anyway? When I click on the link it just opens another application of the same page.

It should work from a USB drive if it is bootable

There is an error on that link - try this one http://sdd.toshiba.c...cs/fjdt_700.zip

It appears to be a failed hard drive then, as that should be able to get some data
