A couple of weeks ago I reinstalled XP on my old PC. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago when I started getting this error box: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Not sure if this is what is causing Super Anti Spyware to freeze up when it encounters a similar file?

Any thoughts?

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, missed your post completely.

Check Event Viewer, see if it gives you any indication of what the real problem is.

Tons of stuff.
Many Application Errors, several MSiInstaller Warnings,Security failure audit,etc... In short, there are problems in all categories except for Internet Explorer (which I never use).Shall I post all of the logs?

Forgot to mention that when I turned the PC on it rebooted itself for 10 minutes before finally loading properly.

You could try doing a System Restore to a few days before this problem occurred, see if that fixes it. Otherwise a reinstall may be the way to go.

Google yields lots of possibilities for this error: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close

This one looks promising: http://answers.yahoo...11223838AAsy17w
