Ever since I installed VZAccess Manager for my Verizon USB760 wireless modem, I cannot get FrontPage or some Internet updates (LastPass, TuneUp Utilities) to make a successful connection when I connect though a home/hotel Wireless or Ethernet cable. Web browsing with Firefox/IE/Safari/etc. and Outlook email work just fine on whatever wireless or Ethernet connection I have.

If I want to do someone for a legacy FrontPage system or get some updates, I have to start the VZAccess Manager and connect to the Internet via the Verizon Wireless network. Since I pay per Megabyte for Verizon, I really would like to be able to use the free home/hotel wireless when it's available.

Is there a port or some setting that VZAccess Manager captures? Is there a way to undo the capture and let other wireless systems have full Internet access?

Another application that is blocked is TweetDeck, if that helps point to the problem!

I just helped a friend with this recently. The solution was to uninstall VZAccess manager and use Windows Dial-up Networking (DUN). I just wrote a topic in our new smartphone forum that should help: http://www.geekstogo...access-manager/

Unfortunately, removing the VZAccess Manager didn't fix the problem. I uninstalled that software and rebooted. I made a connection using other wireless networks available. I can get here (via Firefox) and I can get email from Outlook, but FrontPage and program updates and even Semagic blog posting doesn't work!

Is there something in the drivers that grabs the protocols from the native Windows wireless drivers? Any ideas on that track?

I don't think they are https. They are applications that do things like check for program updates for themselves, post blogs, or connect to the FrontPage services of a web hosting company.

I can get to https sites (my bank, etc.) without any problems using Firefox.

I can also do ftp using Firefox.

I have tried the programs like Semagic, FrontPage, etc. after turning off my ESET fireall, too. I get the same error messages. It's like some port or something in the network about which I am technically ignorant of now only wants to go through the Verizon network.

FTP uses port 22, but since you can access via Firefox Verizon must not be blocking that port. I'm going to point someone else to this topic see if he has any ideas.
