My computer freezes on the blue welcome screen when it wakes up

My operating system is window vista home premium. I use Norton Security Suite . Internet Explorer 8.0.
Recently I am unable to get past the blue welcome screen when I wake up my computer. I am able to enter my password and that is as far as I get. The pc freezes on the blue welcome screen. If I reboot the system it is fine..Any help is appreciated

What make and model computer? Desktop or Laptop?

When you say Recently, when did this actually start?

Have you tried doing a System Restore to before this started?
