Hey Geeks....

Got an e-mail with GIF attachments that I can't open. When I right click on them, Properties says: javascript: void (0) Protocol: Unknown Protocol Type: Not available Address: javascript:void(0)(URL)

Is there anyway I can open these files or are they corrupt and need to be re-sent?

Having no problem with JPEGS.

Thanks all...

The simple answer maybe to Save the file on desktop and then try to open it and see what happens. When saved right click, click open with and then select Windows Photo Viewer, Microsoft Picture and fax editor, depending on which you have.

Thanks Macboatmaster:

Tried it... didn't work though. Used Explorer, Picasa and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer... no dice!

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

May I just check that you tried this suggestion, as against just opening from the email.

The simple answer maybe to Save the file on desktop and then try to open it and see what happens

To check that your computer can open GIF images.
Please go here
http://www.google.co...CA&ved=0CBwQsAQ
Save one of the images As GIF to your pictures.
Then open.

Tweety Bird opened up just fine, thanks Macboatmaster.
This mean the GIF files were not sent correctly?

I think that will prove to be the problem

This mean the GIF files were not sent correctly?

providing of course that you also tried opening after saving.
A retry, on another send with GIF, may well be the best way of settling the issue.

I right click on the photo from the Google website and copy it to My Pictures. It is now converted to a JPEG and opens in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. I don't see the option to save the image.

Taking the top left image on the link I sent, left click once on the image.
A large image opens.
Right click once, on the image, select Save As.
Save the image as GIF format which it will default to.
Close the browser.
Open the image.

Well in that case, may I then go back to my suggestion in post 6.
A retry, on another send with GIF, may well be the best way of settling the issue.

Ask someone to send you another email with a GIF attachment., if it will not open, save it as you did the image on the link and then try.

Thanks Macboatmaster... this has been very helpful. I see you're in Wales. I'm half Welsh, my mother coming from Swansea. But we all live in Canada now.
Best of luck...
