Do I really need to do all this just to update my video card drivers?

Sorry if this question is stupid, it's just that I'm still new to Windows 7 and I've never Updated video card drivers before.

Following the guide would result in a clean install of the new drivers but it is a matter of choice by the individual.
Why do you want or need to change the present drivers are you having display issues?
Driver updates are released to address known issues that the component may have, if you are not having any issues with the card I suggest that you leave well alone as you could ultimately end up creating problems, if it is not broke don`t fix it

About a month ago I got a page fault in nonpaged area BSOD. Someone suggested that old video card drivers could have caused it.

This issue can be caused by both hardware and software namely failing Ram, anti virus software or indeed any number of system drivers.
If it does not occur again I would leave well alone but meanwhile familiarize yourself with the crash dump analyzer WhoCrashed, if it does happen again and you cannot resolve the issue yourself post the results back here and someone will assist you; http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed
FWIW GTG staff will not close a topic without reason until the OP requests it so please post back here if the need arises or you consider the issue resolved.

I ran both System File Checker and CHKDSK and they didn't report any problems. Hopefully that BSOD was a one time thing.

I'll follow your advice and try not to mess with anything.

Thanks for the update, good news on the HDD testing and yes hopefully the issue will not occur again but you know where we are if it does, good luck

Hey Phil I just got 4 messages in windows action center. Something about a video hardware error.

The funny thing is I don't remember having any crashes on the date the problems occurred. Any ideas what could cause that?

Is the system still running ok? If yes then I would leave well alone but if not follow the directions below;
Please Run the PCPitstop.com OverDrive Full Tests

Here's how:

Okay I'll do the test thing and get back to you. I also checked Event Viewer today and found 3 nvlddmkm error's, same date as the above video hardware errors.


I did some googling and found that a lot of Nvidia cards get this stupid error.

No issues showing anywhere there, all drivers are up to date etc.
At this time I can only suggest that you make sure that all important OS updates are installed and that you have a look at Riva Tuner to see if there is a bug fix there that will sort the issue + there are other options there that can help you get an improved performance from your GFX card http://www.freewaref...gram_13538.html

It would do no harm, download the latest drivers and save them to your desktop first, uninstall the present drivers
using the correct Nvidea uninstaller tool then run driver sweeper to ensure that no driver remnants remain that may
