Hi, my brother cannot access to my USB shared printer and shared files, and same to my PC. My shared USB printer name was Brother HL-2140 (not the network based printing) and I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2. I tried using network setup wizard which you can setup file and printer sharing to both of the computers and the method doesn't work. Also I tried using the advanced sharing options which I can manage the user to access my files and printer, and I ticked the box "Everyone" on the "Safety" tab and it also doesn't work.

Could anyone please tell me what's wrong with the file and printer sharing to both computers? Is it the firewall, antivirus software, software blocking, etc? If anyone can help, I will try to fix this problem.

Hello and welcome,

First of all can your computers see each other show up in the Workgroup? Can you ping the other computer etc?

Some good info here if it is helpful:

Sorry, it was my brother's PC didn't installed Service Advertising Protocol. The file sharing and printer sharing has worked again. The reason that the file sharing and printer sharing didn't work because one or more computer(s) didn't install Service Advertising Protocol. Problem solved. :)
