The computer is actually running quite nicely, from what I checked this morning ( I am at a library right now). I have a couple questions:

1. How do I address how to fix the Webroot Spyware sweeper? The installation says it was damaged and when I attempted to download it again and reinstall, it would not reinstall. Should I continue, or no?

2. What would be the BEST anti-viral/anti-spyware software that I should get? Webroot was not enough to stop all the malware from coming in.

Tonight I will check the computer's behavior more and let you know.

Hi,

How do I address how to fix the Webroot Spyware sweeper? The installation says it was damaged and when I attempted to download it again and reinstall, it would not reinstall. Should I continue, or no?

  • To remove Webroot Spysweeper click here and save SSECleanup.zip to a known location on your computer.
  • Once downloaded unzip SSECleanup.zip then double-click the file SSECleanup.exe.
  • At this time a Window will pop up. Once this happens wait until the window closes itself. Once the window closes Webroot Spysweeper will be removed from the computer.

What would be the BEST anti-viral/anti-spyware software that I should get? Webroot was not enough to stop all the malware from coming in.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as perfect security. I can only recommend you some products which I use and are good for me.

For AV I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (free) and for general malware prevention Malwarebytes Antimalware Pro with real time protection (it is payable application).

Well, the computer is running MUCH better than before. I decided to install what you mentioned above, and it was able to detect another trojan (got rid of it).

However-- I noticed that this window keeps coming up that says "Win32 Driver is unable to work" or something along those lines. Then the bottom task bar will get weird, and then it looks like something from the 90's that was used. Then, it changes back to the typical Windows XP OS format.

I also wanted to thank you for your hard work and putting up with this PITA!

OK. Now open Microsoft Security Essentials and click on History tab:

Posted Image

Select last detected item and select all text in section inside red rectangle.
Copy it by pressing keys CTRL and C at a same time and then paste it (CTRL+V) in your next reply.

NEXT...

Posted Image OTL Custom Scan

  • Double click on the Posted Image icon to run it.
  • Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top, make sure Stadard output is selected.
  • Select Scan all users
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box copy and paste this in:

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /rs
    hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /64 /rs
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Posted Image button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open OTL.Txt in Notepad window.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the content of this file and post it with your next reply.
