Can virtual pc run external devices such as laboratory equipment?

I currently have a computer running windows 7 and I have installed virtual pc running windows xp. Im just wondering, is it possible for virtual pc to run hardware.

Probably not.
It's meant to be a temporary stop-gap for incompatible programs more than anything else.
