To make a long story short you fixed what was in essence a vary minor problem... and in the process you've caused yourself a grate deal of headache... you see ever since then you've found yourself flagged as some sort of techno Guru... all because you deleted a few non essential programs... and cleaned out some much needed corners of her comp ( Btw It took well over an hour and a half... closer to two and a half, just to finish running defrag.... *sigh* ).
And that people is the story up till now... and for the most part I don't mind it really( most of the time the so called " problems " are no more difficult to deal with then the one's that I listed above lmao )... But every now and then ( such as now in fact )... I get a real problem... One that I know is over my head. You see she (my boss) recently asked me to have a look at her brothers laptop, turns out he had recently bought a new laptop and decided to have a migration ( complete program swap ) done by her ( my boss's ) husband ... problem was it wasn't complete... aka some programs didn't make the transfer over to his new computer from his old.. not too uncommon as I understand it... specifically his Quickbooks and his microsoft word..
And here's where I enter in... she wanted me to finish doing the transfer( why she didn't just ask her husband to finish it idk )but I figured... what the heck.. its just two programs ( I mean that's what externals are for lol )... but no sooner then I get it home ....the dang thing blew up( *sigh* )
here's the symptoms " every time I load the computer up... although everything appears normal... as soon as I get to the deskop to look around... ten secs after the desktop appears... the sucker freezes... I've tried waiting.... ya know just in case it was simply slow and not actually frozen... I've tried Axeing some of the programs in the Startup folder ( on the premise that there might be just too many things going on all at once... it happens ya know? ... ) Nada... so I say freak it... and head over to system restore... only to realize that I can't access it( it keeps freezing rember? )... so I load it up in safemode and tryed there... again nada... seems system restore had been turned off... and being as I was
In safe mode it wouldn't let me turn it back on( I had to be in regular mode apparently )... so I tried slipping in using the windows hidden administrative account...(I figured that if His profile wasn't going to cooperate... I'd go over its head lol ) which seemed to work just fine... no lagg issues... no freezes.... so figuring I'd made some progress I light me a cigarette and headed back over to system restore ( the idea was to just turn it back on... and use it to reset the clock to back when It did work... )nada.... well not completly any way.... I mean I managed to turn it back on ( that wasn't a problem )... however the only restore date that appeared was the same day as when I started this whole mess.... aka she brought me the comp on the twelfth.... system restore showed the last restore date as the twelfth.. and nothing before that ...nothing... nada... zilch...
I'm stumped... no matter what every time I load his profile... automatic freeze... without fail... on the other hand his data is what I was sent to gather.. so Idk if I should just use the Windows Admin profile as a spring board to just gank the intell ( aka the Quickbooks exc. exc. ) by doing a search for files on the comp through the admin profile... and just use my external to transfer them over... or if I should take the risk of running a system repair disk and see if that helps(and thereby take the risk of losing those files entirely )... and then theres the added headache of... well What the heck is couseing the freeze treatment in the first place... So ok I'm really stumped here lol
any advice ppl?
