Pinnacle 9 doesn't acknowledge box, help?

I purchased an unopened Pinnacle Studio 9, installed it to my computer. I've read through the book, read through the help, done everything I could possibly think to do and for some reason, the program will not acknowledge the presence of the a/v box. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, but I'm sure it's human error. I was wondering if anyone out there might know anything about Pinnacle and would maybe be willing to extend some of their knowledge this way?
