Hello,

I originally came to visit your site because of the draeded Aurora pop ups. I ran all the clean up tools mentioned on your site ,and I haven't noticed any aurora problems ( but I also haven't been on my PC that much). I now have some other issues which I don't know if they are related or not...

Upon start up I get an error message saying:

Error Loading: C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL The specified module cannot be found.
Also, all my programs are running extremely slow- to get on the Internet takes forever. I hope you can help me out. My Hijack this log is posted below:

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. If you have trouble updating, you may do it manually at http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ Do NOT the Ewido scan yet.

Please download Nailfix at http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip (for Windows XP) or http://users.pandora...y/nailfix2k.zip (for Windows 2000) Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh.../WinsockFix.zip and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd (or nailfix2k.bat if you have Windows 2000). Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Post the log from the Ewido scan here.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

I haven't had a chance to run these fixes and I am having problems with the nailfix.exe link and the greyknight17.com/ winsocfic, etc. Can someone review my problem and give me new instructions? I promise to do the stuff right away so the links still work. Sorry to be a pain in the butt!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh...sockFix.sfx.exe and uncompress it. Then double-click on the uncompressed file to run it.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

I did evrything you asked except at the final step where I am to delete the files...

I found all of them but I wasn't able to delete the following:

C\:WINDOWS\JAASTE.DLL
C\:WINDOWS\KB290333.DLL

When I tried, I got an error saying:
Cannot delete file. Access Denied. Make sure the Disk is not full or write protected or that the file is not currently in use.

I'm not sure what the problem is as I did every step above that you mentioned. I didn't run another HijackThis after as I ran into this problem and you said to let you know if I have questions or problems.

No problem, we can get rid of those two with a program:

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C\:WINDOWS\JAASTE.DLL
C\:WINDOWS\KB290333.DLL

Delete that NewDotNet folder if it's still there.

Give me a new log when done.

There is an easy way to find out if KillBox did the trick or not. Can you find those two files anymore? If not, it did it

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Did you use KillBox to delete those two files? You have to copy and paste them into that box there and then hit the circled X button. If you did that already, then let's try this:

Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Leave that window open. Hit ctrl+alt+del and go to the Processes tab. Look for explorer.exe and end that process. Your desktop and start menu will disappear, that's normal. Now go back to the command prompt window you still have opened and type in the following (hit Enter after each line):

attrib -s -r -h JAASTE.DLL
del JAASTE.DLL
attrib -s -r -h KB290333.DLL
del KB290333.DLL
explorer
exit

See if those two files are still there now.
