GeForce 6600 problem

I installed a GeForce 6600 256MB. Coming new from windows i also installed Ubuntu 11.04. My info top and bottom bars disappeared. I can only now right click and get that menu. To install the drivers i went to System - Administration - Additional drivers. I First installed the recommended driver and got the problem. I then had to remove the graphic card and un-install the driver. Rebooted and then installed the other driver on Additional drivers. Same problem. Hey i am so new to Ubuntu i do not understand this stuff you have to type into terminal.
