Counter Srike Display Mode

Hi everyone... i have this problem with counter-srike...i think it has to do with my video card drivers. In the Display mode there used to be a "NORMAL" and "WIDESCREEN". now it's gone. is there a setting i have to change to get it back? also since there is no widescreen mode i can't change the resolution to 1280x768. it only goes up to 1024x768. my monitor is a widescreen 17" dell. thanks in advance for the help
