So my girlfriend was playing words with friends on face book last night when all of a sudden she wasn't able to send the request for her game, it was acting like it was sending but anything you tried to do you got an hour glass including trying to open task manager.

Today i went to run malwarebytes and superantispyware, it starts to run them then shuts me down and won;t let me run again, in her running processes she has a strange one i have never saw before it is a number 3523697396:195... i tried searching it on Google but found nothing, i tried safe mode and the number is still there tried doing a system restore but nothing so am assuming it has been infected.

Tried to dl otl but it wouldn't let me do that either

Any suggestions on what to do to this

Hi this is the zero access bootkit.... So lets see if we can kill it. These may be run from safe mode

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :OTL
    [2011/04/22 06:32:16 | 000,000,136 | ---- | C] () -- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\~19521332r

    [2011/04/22 06:32:14 | 000,000,392 | ---- | C] () -- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\19521332
    @Alternate Data Stream - 784 bytes -> C:\WINDOWS\3523697396:195426349.exe

    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.

    Posted Image
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.

    Posted Image

  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

    Posted Image

  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.

    Posted Image

  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

The two threats were the multi numbered file and a bootkit.. Two more tools to try. This is a fairly new infection and changes daily so it is hard to get to grips with it properly

First :

When you download combofix rename it to svchost prior to running

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop *

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

    Posted Image

    Posted Image
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Second

  • Download AntiZeroAccess to Desktop
  • Double click on it to run it (If running Vista or Windows 7, right click on it and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Type y and press enter to run the scan
  • Please post AntiZeroAccess_Log.txt contents in your next post. This file is saved in the same location as AntiZeroAccess program.
