Hello,

I just formatted my brother's laptop and reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional SP2.

I have installed all of the drivers and have NO yellow question marks remaining under the Device Manager.

The laptop is showing several available wireless connections available, including my home network.

I click on my home network, it asks for my security key, I enter it, it appears like it is connecting but then it takes me back to the "Choose a wireless network" screen.

I did CMD and IPCONFIG and am getting the following:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Media State.......Media Disconnected.

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2: Media Sate.......Media Disconnected.

I should note that when plugged directly into an ethernet cable from our router, we are able to access the internet.

For whatever reason, we just cannot figure out how to fix this wireless connection problem.

ALL OTHER LAPTOPS IN THE HOUSE ARE CONNECTED WIRELESSLY WITHOUT PROBLEM.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance that you could provide. I am so close to getting my brother's laptop back up and running for him but am being held up by this.

As usual, I thank you in advance for your expertise. This forum is the best!

Hello,

It is an IBM Thinkpad R52 1860C8U.

There is no wireless "switch" on this model. I believe that it is done through the function keys, however, I do see the wireless light on.

Thanks!
