I would go with a fresh Windows XP reinstall. What do you say?

Looks like it's going to have to be that.
I was trying my best to avoid it but when I get a chance (this weekend is very busy) I'm going to save some files off the hdd
and fresh install.

Thanks for your time and help, I'll let you know how it goes!

All right.

So after it taking several days to transfer files to an external drive,
I was finally ready to wipe the hdd. I deleted the current partition and formatted
(not quick) and did a clean install of Windows XP.

Although the computer is no longer slow as sin, it is still very slow
and something is still wrong. And it is blue screening already.

I'm starting to fear that this is motherboard-related, as there are
few options left.

I'm sorry it took so long to post results but things have been busy.
As usual, any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

I just want to get to the bottom of this.

It seems like a hardware problem. I would recommend you to visit nearest local computer service.
