Many programs are freezing such as the OTL program at the Drive Info part. My DVD Drive won't open anymore and if I right click it to eject it, Windows Explorer freezes. iTunes and many other programs won't even load up. Everything has been acting weird. My AntiVir Premium, Malwarebytes, and Windows System Defender do not find anything. I am really starting to think that I have a virus or bug.

I managed to get HijackThis to work since OTL kept freezing on me:

Now, my desktop freezes, I cannot click anything on it. I quit explorer and restart it and it still is that way. This is just getting worse and worse for me. I want my laptop back for college and its not looking too good for me. Also, it thinks there is a CD, i do a manual eject and it still thinks there is a CD. I cannot get to any of my restore points and it won't read a recovery disc or anything. Please help ASAP!

Hiya

Firstly, can you uninstall this via AddRemove Programs:

Ask Toolbar

Then, see if you can run Combofix for me:

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! As you download it rename it to username123.exe and save it to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
    • Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Okay, there is a few things that look suspect, so can you do the following:

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then click on Change parameters.

    Posted Image
  • Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.

    Posted Image
  • Click the Start Scan button.

    Posted Image
  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

    Posted Image
  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
  • Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

    Posted Image
  • Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.

A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply

Okay, that looks good, so lets just check with this tool now, as there is something there I want to narrow things down a bit.

Download aswMBR.exe ( 511KB ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it

Click the "Scan" button to start scan
Posted Image

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

Okay, there is a registry key I want to look at further. Can you do this for me:

Go here, and download SWReg:

http://www.xs4all.nl...loads/swreg.exe

Put the file into the C:\WINDOWS\ folder.

Go to Start and then Run, and type

cmd

and press OK.

Now, copy/paste the following into the Command Prompt:

%WINDIR%\SWReg null query hku\S-1-5-21-1043806178-727526901-2694514658-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\{8F0FB132-8310-1A66-EF0A-0BD8D873EC9A /s >> C:\exportnulls.txt

And press Enter.

If you're not sure how to paste into the Command Prompt, copy the above as normal. Then, rightclick at the Command Prompt, and select Paste.

Type Exit and then press enter to close the Command Prompt.

The report will be found at C:\exportnulls.txt

It looks like the full line wasn't copied fully, hence the error.

Can you copy all of the below, including up to "/s >> C:\exportnulls.txt":

%WINDIR%\SWReg null query HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1043806178-727526901-2694514658-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\{8F0FB132-8310-1A66-EF0A-0BD8D873EC9A /s >> C:\exportnulls.txt

If still no joy, I'll have a look at it when I get home :)

Ah, I see what I've done. Can you try it again, but as follows:

%WINDIR%\SWReg null query "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1043806178-727526901-2694514658-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\{8F0FB132-8310-1A66-EF0A-0BD8D873EC9A" /s >> C:\exportnulls.txt
