Hello Gents,
Im currently look to upgrade my Dell Optiplex 755 Mini Tower.
My PCI-E slot is a single slot, which doesnt allow me much options but i was figuring i could machine the box abit to fit a dual slot.
If this is possible i will need another Power Supply Unit.

My current hardware is stock besides my GFX card.

4GB Ram DDR2
Nvidia Geforce 520GT 2GB
300watt PSU

I don't think so - depending on what you mean by "box". The motherboard is the key factor. If it only has 1 slot, that's it. You cannot just add a slot, or add a splitter to make two slots.

And whenever adding ANY hardware, there is always the potential the added power requirements will necessitate a larger PSU - especially when starting from 300W.

Well ive found a 500 PSU that will fit,
Now about the graphics card, i have a GT 520 top of the range for single slotted cards on nvidia.
wondering would radeon have a single slot gfx card better than the GT520

Don't buy the PSU until you pick the graphics card and know your power requirements.

I think you are confused about this slot issue. I am not aware of any graphics card that uses two slots in the motherboard. There are many that are double wide and consume two slots in the back of the case, but they still only install in one motherboard slot.

As far as cards that are better than the 520 - there are many. The 520 is a budget card compared to what's available.

Again, with this single slot deal. There are no two slot cards. There are double wide cards, but that is not an issue, unless your case only has one expansion slot - and that is not likely. Most have at least 3. Yours has 4.

Would it fit also, ive opened my box and there is no expansion slot on the left of my PCI-E

The reviews I am seeing is that mini tower has 2 PCI and 2 PCIe slots. So we need the exact and full model number to be sure we are talking about the same computer. When I think of "mini", that often means you need a "low profile" card to fit inside the case.

Personally, I would not swap a graphics card with 2Gb of RAM for a card with 1Gb of RAM.

How much system RAM do you have? Note increasing the RAM often provides the best bang for your money in terms of over all performance - and in most cases, does not require a more powerful PSU to support it.
