Download and run Autoruns http://technet.micro...ernals/bb963902
1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
7: Attach to your next reply.

Next download and run TFC by OldTimer http://www.geekstogo...ner-byoldtimer/
Your computer should automatically re-boot on completion but if not do it manually.

Then download Auslogics to defrag your HDD http://www.auslogics...defrag/download

Thanks rshaffer61 for the additional support :)

Get the newest drivers first and then proceed with the uninstall of old drivers and then reboot.

I can't seem to find the drivers in the Control Panel or in CCleaner, just the AMD catalyst install manager.

Is there a specific way to find the drivers to remove them?

Edit: I have found this program: http://downloads.gur...ad.php?det=1275
Apparantly it's removal software made by AMD, should I use that?

Here's a few things you can try:

Please download and install EVGA Precision from here. (Click on the Download (America) or Download (Europe) link, then scroll down and click on I Agree.)

Run EVGA Precision. On the right side, you should see Fan Speed and, beside it, an Auto button. Click the Auto button so that it is no longer selected, then change the Fan Speed to 100%. Now, go to the left side, and on the bottom, click Apply.

If that doesn't alleviate crashes, try this:

First, uninstall the NVIDIA drivers (if they are still installed) using Add or Remove Programs. You can get to Add or Remove Programs by clicking on the Start Button, then clicking on Control Panel. Then click Add or Remove Programs. Once in Add or Remove Programs, you need to find NVIDIA Drivers and click Change/Remove. (If you have an NVIDIA chipset, make sure the NVIDIA Display Driver checkbox is checked, then click Remove. Otherwise, just click Yes.)

Next, please download and install Driver Sweeper from here. (Click on the Download (Europe) link, then scroll down and click on I Agree.)

Then, boot the computer into safe mode. To do this,
  • Turn the computer on (or restart the computer if it is already on).
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in safe mode.
Next, open the program, Guru3D Driver Sweeper, that you just installed. Check the checkbox for cleaning NVIDIA - Display drivers. Then press the Clean button.

Reboot normally (not into safe mode), and then, Go Here for Nvidia drivers
Supply the requested information in the drop down windows. It will scan your system and then should give you the newest driver for your video card. Download\Install that and then it should prompt you to reboot.
If not I suggest you do just to make sure the changes take affect.

Those programs are for Nvidia cards, I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 5850

Then use the program you linked to so that you can uninstall the drivers completely.

Ok, I'll do that, and get back to you later when the process is complete.

I've given it a while and tried out a few things, and so far there have been no more artifacts, and no more flashes while scrolling! I'm still getting very minor flashing when I, for example, open a youtube video, but it's nothing too big to ignore.
I'm not having any trouble with DX11 anymore either.

Edit: The flashes, strangely enough, seem to be the windows that I'm switching between, flashing momentarily out of Aero and into Basic, then back to Aero again, in the space of about a second. I can distinctly see the default Basic colour.

Flash as in .flv?
Yeah, thats up to date.

The problems are to do with windows open on the desktop, rather than videos. They flash momentarily out of Aero when I switch between them. It's nothing I can't ignore, but it would be interesting to know why it's doing it.

It's definately nothing to do with flash player, it's not just when I open videos, it's when i click on a seperate window, for example if I have MSN and a Chrome window open, if I click on one, then on the other, they both flash into basic, then back to Aero, and I still seem to be getting minor graphical bugs, but only on the desktop, never in games.

The problem is there are so many [bleep] variables, and the problem itself isn't consistent. It can be really bad one day, then gone the next, which invalidates anything I might have done to fix it, because it might not even have been having the problem when it was attempted. Theres no way to properly test what might cause the problem, or what might stop it, because it's pretty much random.

It's very frustrating.
I can't find any correlation, nothing I'm doing seems to affect it, I can be using the card to 99%, or at 0%, and it doesn't seem to make any difference, DX9, DX10, DX11, OpenGL, different heats, different monitors, it just seems to come and go randomly.

So the only common denominator is the card itself.
Do you have onboard video you can switch to for awhile and see if it happens then?

Yes, good idea, my MoBo has an onboard HD 4250 I can switch to for a bit. Will I have to remove the 5850, or can I select the 4250 through the BIOS? My case is pretty tight and it's a pain getting stuff in and out.
