pc wont conect to internet but laptop will

Hello. My 1 month old gateway wont connect to internet.? Just 2 days ago it did the same thing, but then it worked some hours later. Today again as I was on the internet it stopped working.
Not the modem or anything since I am now plugged to my laptop, and am fine... Plus bought a kingston 8gig memory stick for 8 $ bucks at walmart 2 days ago and after I transfered about 6.5 gigs from my pc to it, Now my pc works like [bleep] (in corel video studio) even when I dont have that piece o crap stick in. How can a memory stick crap out my new computer.?
