Hi,
My computer started having problems yesterday and I get a ton of pop ups every time I get on the Internet, making it impossible to do anything online. I am talking 30 windows opening at once on my screen. I somehow had Aurora on my computer yesterday, which I think I partially removed, but am still having problems. I've included the HijackThis log below.

Hi Sabine,

I can see you have some Malware issues, this will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further

Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Please download FindQoologic from here:
http://forums.net-in...=post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.

Please post a new Hijackthis log, the ActiveScan Log and the log from FindQoologic.

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
Download KillBox http://www.bleepingc...are/KillBox.zip
Download rkfiles http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

Download the remv3.zip at http://forums.skads....hp?showtopic=80 (look for the attachment posted in that second reply). Make a new folder on the root drive C:\ and unzip remv3.zip files into it.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.
Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Run CleanUp program

Please run Killbox.

1) Select "Delete on Reboot".

2) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\jrjramj.exe.tcf

3) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

4) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot and go into Safe Mode
These tools MUST be run in safe mode!

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode, double click rkfiles.bat file to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. Open the C:\log.txt it created and rename it log1.txt.

Now open the folder where you saved remv3.zip files and double click the rem.bat file and let it run. It will delete the files and remove the infection and then make a log of the files it finds. The log file will be C:\log.txt and bad1.txt

**Note** Each tool uses log.txt as it’s output file so make sure you save the entries from one tools log before running the other as it will overwrite the file if you don’t.

Reboot back to normal mode and post the contents of both the log.txt, log1.txt and a frsh HiJackThis log in your next post.

Update Ewido if you haven't already done so

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder

• Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
• Click Check For Update
• Close CWShredder
  We will be using this program later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

4. Open HiJack and do a scan.

5. Put a Check next to the following items:

6. click the Fix Checked box

7. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

8. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
c:\windows\system32\johpyg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ps1.exe

9. Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

10. Run Ewido

• Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
  • Binder
  • Crypter
  • Archives
• Click on Start Scan
• Let the program scan the machine

While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

11. Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

12. Reboot in normal mode and Please post an Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThisnew log to verify all is good. Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

I tried to get online to run the ActiveScan but couldn't do so in safe mode so I ran it in normal mode.

Your Hijackthis Log looks great. How is your computer running?

One more file to delete.

please run Killbox.

1) Select "Delete on Reboot".

2) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\cdmxtras

3) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

4) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Let the system reboot.

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest this Free program:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

A Firewall is a must! Here are 2 good free versions:

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

This site is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot
