sorry didn't see your last response. after restarting, and pressing F8 - it is now loading Windows files from the DVD

Try last known good from the safe mode menu first
It appears that you may have a new variant as the MBR change is done totally with MS tools and has never failed before

OK - now at the System Recovery Options window again with tow choices. Use recovery tools that can help...Windows 7 is listed under the Operating System
Or Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier

Remove the dvd from the system and then restart - does that work ?

After removing the disk we made:
It begins, then flashes a blue screen for just a second, then goes to the windows error recovery screen.
I have the drivers disk and the windows 7 operating system disk - if either of these might help.

Launch Startup Repair or Start window normally
I didn't act quick enough so it is in the startup repair sequence.

It stoppped without correcting the problem. I turned it off. Glad i have another computer.

When it completes the start up repair does it state what the error is ?
