I saw a similar topic but the lady gave no details of her system, at least not yet, so I'm going to go ahead with mine.

Also blue screen of death.

Dell Dimension 4600 series
OS: Windows XP with most recent updates

What was going on: I had a few windows open but not more than I've had before. Also open, I had Firefox working in Google Docs which I've noticed hogging memory, solved only by closing FF and reopening.

Dell Diagnostics showed IDE Confidence Test = fail.
I interrupted the Diagnostics test at 74% after seven more tests passed and it looked like we might have the culprit

Hello, and welcome to Geeks to go !

How's the computer running today? Are you still having problems.

What was the blue screen error as shown on screen?

A blue Screen error and Dell Diagnostics showed IDE Confidence Test = fail. Indicates a hard drive is starting to have issues.
