I am feeling that this may be hardware related now as I am seeing no sign of malware. What is the make and model as it may have a recovery partition

dell factory image restore This is the recovery partition

With the way the system is behaving I would recommend that you back up all your data to a CD/USB and then action that function. That will restore the computer to the out of the box factory settings

First thing will be to check that your security is good :

Do you have an antivirus installed now ?
I would recommend Malwarebytes as an on demand malware scanner
Update to IE9 even if you only use firefox

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?

Any further questions then do not hesitate to ask
