I am feeling that this may be hardware related now as I am seeing no sign of malware. What is the make and model as it may have a recovery partition

Reboot the computer pressing F8 to get to the safe mode menu
Select Repair
Is there an option called restore with a further option to reset to factory settings ?

With the way the system is behaving I would recommend that you back up all your data to a CD/USB and then action that function. That will restore the computer to the out of the box factory settings

All reset. What suggestions to you have for me moving forward? Also, thanks for all your help!

First thing will be to check that your security is good :
Do you have an antivirus installed now ?
I would recommend Malwarebytes as an on demand malware scanner
Update to IE9 even if you only use firefox
Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
