Hello, I've just moved to an island off Thailand and have paid for a username and password for the local wireless internet offered on the island so i can access the internet via my laptop.

Its the type of deal where you pay for the username and password, connect to the unsecure wireless network, once a browser is opened you input your username and password, then browse away, skype, etc.

My problem is, whenever i try to access a torrent site, access denied. even searching the word 'torrent' in google, access denied. sometimes i can work my way into a torrent site without using the word 'torrent' and i can search the torrent site, but as soon as i try to begin a download, access denied.

I tried just using the torrent application 'vuze' without a browser. i was able to search, locate a file, queue the download. but it seems they have managed to control that as well because it wont actually begin downloading, nor will any torrents already half downloaded in the torrent application.

They have also managed to prevent me from connecting to the internet via another file sharing program, soulseek. primarily for music, not a torrent application. and to add insult to injury, even some porn sites im denied access... shocking!

so i have no way of downloading anything, unless its directly from a website, and even then, the internet drops out here every 15 minutes, so the download just restarts in firefox rather than taking off where it left like a torrent would. so thats hopeless too.

I was hoping someone knew a way i could get around this. Im bored, i need to download something, i just dont know how. Is there some way of disguising torrent searches and the downloading of them? or any other solutions to these problems would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Asking for help regarding what "could be" an illegal act is not seen as proper on these forums or nearly any legitimate help or security forum.
Also has it occurred to you that the local wireless provided to you may not be able support the bandwidth required if even a few users were downloading large files continually via torrents?
You are purchasing a service under your ISP's terms not yours.

I'm sorry I'm not following. Are you suggesting what i may or may not be trying to download may be illegal or trying to get past these 'access denied' prompts that's illegal? I actually dont know much at all about this topic as its never popped its head up where i come from, so I'm really just after some constructive and non-condescending information and help about what it is, and what its about, and can i get past it. It was never mentioned to me when money and a piece of paper with username and password changed hands in order to gain access to this network, nor was any terms of agreement or rules of the network shown to me. So i do feel a little cheated, which is why, if its legal of course, i dont mind being the dark horse on this island that doesnt follow the so called 'rules' or 'terms' of the service provider.

Anyway my thoughts were that everyone downloading large files at the same time being a problem, may be the reason for the access denial for torrent programs originally. However, the guy who came around to provide the password and username told me how there are multiple networks here i can connect to using the same username and password, even from my own house, let alone the rest of the island. Also its not very populated here, especially with people that have their own computers. most people use internet cafes which are scattered around every 5 or so shops. So it seems to me like there is plenty of bandwidth available (if that makes sense).
Also I was thinking, if its a bandwidth issue, then why i am also denied access to sites just for streaming, or the 'browsing' sections of websites like madman.com.au which is a manga and foreign film distribution company for Australia. Surely browsing new titles to be released in Australia isn't going to harm anyone or anything. It feels like its more of a 'net nanny' thing than a bandwidth thing, like how china prevents anyone from using facebook in their country.

Anyway i honestly dont know a lot about the topic, which is why I am here asking for advice and a little more information. so any more help would be really appreciated.
cheers

First of all it sounds like your ISP has blocked access to any P2P or Torrent sites which you will not be able to bypass at least with our assistance.
Secondly per the Terms Of Use that you agreed to when you became a member here at GTG.

GTG does not assist in issues with P2P problems except for the removal of the programs pursuant to the Terms Of Use. This thread will be turned over to a Administrator and closed according to the reasons stated above. Please be aware that GTG will help to rid your system of P2P programs if you choose to do so by starting a new topic and asking for assistance. For future information please read the Terms Of Use in the link at the top of forum. The reason we don't support P2P is because of the law and risk of infection possibly caused by the files downloaded. A great many of these files have infections in them and will cause in some cases your system to become unusable.

This thread has been reported to the Moderating Staff and should be closed shortly. If you have any questions about the TOU please contact a Moderator or Admin for clarification.
